FAQ’s

  • A turnkey installation is your A to Z solution for a successful kitchen garden build. After the consultation, we design your kitchen garden. The materials will be sourced, ordered, delivered and assembled. If landscaping or irrigation are required, we will source the contractors for you and coordinate their services. The last step is planting your kitchen garden for the appropriate season.

  • Nope. A landscaper designs, plans, installs, and maintains outdoor spaces of all kinds, such as gardens, yards, parks, and other green areas. In contrast, we focus on kitchen gardens and the native pollinators to support them. We like to say we are specialists rather than generalists.

  • Garden consulting involves a 15 minute exploratory phone call followed by a one-hour visit, during which we discuss your kitchen garden goals, analyze your location for the best placement, identify any potential complications, and provide recommendations and solutions for layout, planting and garden maintenance. From there, you can opt for either a DIY solution or continue with us to create a fully customized plan for you.

  • Garden coaching is an option for existing kitchen garden clients who have already have an installed garden. As a garden coach, I will work closely with you to provide hands-on training and guidance. I will help you learn and implement various gardening techniques, working towards specific gardening goals or resolving problems that we have identified. We can do this together while you are planting your garden, if you’d like. Coaching can be on a one-time basis, at designated intervals, or at the change of garden seasons.

  • Yep, 100%. We don’t use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Taking a cue from nature, we generally use only compost and earthworm castings to fuel your kitchen garden.

  • Of course! We’re available for onsite personal coaching sessions in your own garden anytime you have questions or need a helping hand. We also offer quarterly kitchen garden cleanup, nutrient top-off and seasonal plantings.

  • We offer several solutions! Garden coaching is available in packages, with real-time advice with each session. Our newsletter also includes tips on the what, what and how of successful kitchen gardens.

  • This depends on the size of your garden and what you plant. Each square foot of your kitchen garden should give you 1-2 harvests per month. A 4’x4’ bed would provide salad greens every day. Add a cucumber plant, a tomato plant and some root vegetables like carrots and radishes and you’ll be good to go for a daily salad!

  • There are endless ways to make a kitchen garden work, and small yards are no problem! We can create a plan for a beautiful, accessible and bountiful kitchen garden, regardless of the size of your yard.

  • Absolutely—kitchen gardening is possible in any outdoor space! Your options may might include elevated garden beds (think “legs” or “wheels”). Always check with your apartment management or your condo/townhome HOA for weight and design restrictions as a first step.

  • Areas that receive less than 6 hours of full sunlight can still be rewarding! Salad greens and herbs will do well in shaded areas. Root vegetables, peas and brassica family crops (e.g broccoli, cabbage and arugula) can also grow in a somewhat shaded area, though they will take longer to mature. The good news is that having a garden in a mostly shaded area can also extend your growing season!

  • Our mission is to make kitchen gardens accessible for everyone. Whether you’re a true beginner or an experienced kitchen gardener, we are here to help you to both succeed and learn along the way.

  • Oh, deer. They are so cute, but they love our kitchen gardens as much as we do. If you have a fence that is at least 6’ tall then your garden is probably (well, mostly) safe from deer. If not, we can help you by designing a walk-in deer-proof enclosure. If you are an existing garden maintenance client, we offer organic deer repellent spray as an add-on service.

  • It’s all good! We offer maintenance services for our clients. The harvested produce can either be placed in your fridge or, depending on the length of your holiday, donated to a local food bank.

  • Not a problem! We can source a landscaping solution for you if your property is on a steep slope.
